LensFlare 35 is a weekly show brought to you by Dave Warner. In this week’s episode, Dave interviews Combat Photojournalist Michael Yon. Michael is a former Green Beret, who has been reporting from Iraq and Afghanistan since December 2004. No other reporter has spent as much time with combat troops in these two wars.
Michael’s dispatches from the front lines have earned him the reputation as the premier independent combat journalist of his generation. His work has been featured on Good Morning America, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, CNN, ABC and FOX, as well as hundreds of other major media outlets all around the world.
In this episode, Michael talks about combat photojournalism, whether he has ever felt the need to pick up a weapon, how his special forces background affects his images, how to be a successful combat photojournalist, controversy over mortally wounded American soldiers and flag-draped caskets.
We created a special video of Michael’’s images AND the interview because he did not have time to do a voice-over for each image. This is a little different than our normal format, but thought it would be a good way to have the same kind of video playing. The MP3 podcast interview is still available at lensflare35.com/episode-0037-interview-with-michael-yon-combat-photojournalist if you want to download it, or listen without the images. This is one of the shortest interviews I’ve done, but when you listen, it is clearly one of the most interesting.
