Seacoast community members attend "Thanks For The Lifts," a drizzly farewell party for Memorial Bridge, which spans the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine, on Saturday, October 1, 2011. According to Portsmouth Herald reports, the bridge, which had been temporarily closed several times for repairs, fully closed in July 2011. While still open to pedestrians, the bridge will be closed to vehicles for as long as three years. The contract to replace the bridge has been awarded and design and demolition work will take place throughout 2012 and into 2013.
