Dolores Ibarruri (La Pasionaria) (1895-1989) once said “Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees” and I thought that it was a great concept, but that I couldn’t apply to myself, because I wasn’t even living on my knees. I was just crawling.
Then I thought: "Well, before dying at least I want to experience what it is like walking on ones knees" so I upgraded myself to sneaking and started my way to find that dignity that the communist leader was asking for.
I have called this performance “Searching for a Man” as a remembrance to that searching started by the Greek philosopher Diogenes of Sinope (412-323 BC). He is said to have walked through the streets of Athens carrying a lamp in the daytime, claiming to be looking for a genuine human, but unable to find one. So as Diogenes I have started my own searching for an honest man. Madrid, October 2007
