I was just out shopping in my Elvis outfit (guess where I keep my wallet) when we realised we were in Waitrose which is supporting Comic Relief with Wine Relief.
Founded by Jancis Robinson, Wine Relief encourages the big retailers to give 10% of the sale price on certain wines back to Red Nose Day on March 18th.
Waitrose does wine well. They have a great range and invest back in the industry with education programmes and even their own English vineyard at Leckford. So I don't mind, in this programme, going through the Red Wines in the scheme.
An entry level Merlot, an interesting Sicilian Nero D'Avola blended with the rare grape Frappato. Definitely one to recommend.
Finally there is a the Spanish World Cup wine: Vuvuzela.
Great or gimmick? There's only one way to find out, by cracking open an bottle with genial Jean Yves from Waitrose.
