Stéphane Hessel (95 years old) – a diplomat, ambassador, concentration camp survivor, and former French resistance fighter – is, not only according to Foreign Policy magazine, one of the world’s top thinkers. 64 years ago Mr Hessel participated in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Ahead of this years’ Human Rights Day (10 December 2012), UNRIC’s Afsané Bassir-Pour visited Mr Hessel in his Paris home and talked to him about human rights issues, as well as the role of the United Nations in today’s world.
