Wheaton College's, EYP Designed, LEED Gold certified Mars Center for Science and Technology incorporates energy recovery wheels in high-efficiency air handling units; motion-sensor lighting controls; carbon dioxide sensors; daylight-modeled solar shading and brow; highly reflective roofing and vegetative roof; drought-tolerant plants; night sky-compliant lighting; bioswales and bio-retention basins; re-designated parking for carpooling; high percentage or post-consumer, post-industrial recycled content including all flooring, low-VOC materials, extensive interior glass partitions for borrowed daylight; and a water cooler that calculates the number of bottles saved from landfills. The project has achieved an energy savings of 28.2%.
