Over the last 30 years saxophonist Odean Pope has been known for backing the legendary Max Roach as well as his critically acclaimed Saxophone Choir. The Philadelphia native was friends with Lee Morgan, "Philly" Joe Jones, and the late Hassan Ibu Ali.

But his real training as a musician came from being mentored by the late John Coltrane, Ray Bryant, and Ron Rubin. These were some of the great Philly musicians during the 1950's that influenced him to further study and pursue music. Odean then later went overseas to study at The Paris Conservatory for Music with the legendary Kenny Clarke.

Throughout the years he became a well-known session musician. It was while playing in the group Catalyst that he became more passionate about forming the Saxophone Choir, which he continues to lead and tour extensively all over the world.

Odean has recorded many solo trio recordings including his latest "Odean's List" which is one of the hottest jazz recordings out. He's currently playing with the trio which consists of Lee Smith on Bass and Craig McIver on drums.
Look for more upcoming trio albums later this year.
