A Buddhist monk believed to be a reincarnation of the Dalai Lamas who proceeded him, the Dalai Lama was awarded a Nobel Prize for Peace in 1989. Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist David Turnley was given seven days of unprecedented access to the Dalai Lama's public and private life at his home and at the Buddhist temple in Dharamsala, in Punjab, India, where he lives.
