Film by Eric Minh Swenson. Music by Arlan Schierbaum.

Paul Benavidez, MFA, is a multidisciplinary artist who employs a wide range of artistic media using traditional and contemporary theories and practices in art-making.

He is skilled in the principals and practices of drawing having studied under Howard Warshaw at UC Santa Barbara 1974-1977 as well as other important figures involved in drawing pedagogy in Los Angeles.

In this piece the filmmaker captures only an afternoon in the process of Benavidez’s lengthy drawing study of Angela Izzo. The drawing process of Paul Benavidez’s life portraits can take as long as a year.

The film was shot outside Benavidez’s studio and ranch house in the foothills of the Las Padres mountains overlooking the many groves and Fillmore valley.
