A key Sydney Open 2012 site, the BVN Sydney studio is a simple reworking of a typical 1970s commercial office floor, which entailed removing the cladding from the forest of supporting columns, leaving the space stripped back to the bare concrete. Even the builder’s original pencil marks have been left in situ, including a lunch order for a pie and a sausage roll. The ceiling grid and tiles were removed to reveal all the services and new trays were inserted to carry computer and lighting cables. The space has been warmed by an internal timber deck along the Pitt Street windows to create the studio verandah. BVN Architecture picked up the John Verge Award in 2011 for Interior Architecture for this project.
