The Netherlands paper engineer Marshall Alexander designs paper toys to create a 3-dimensional model.
A graphic designer by day and a paper engineer by night, Marshall is a renowned paper artist from Arnhem, The Netherlands. He trained at the Shillington College in Graphic Design (Melbourne, Australia) before heading back to The Netherlands to concentrate on his paper craft. He initially created 2D Illustration work, but then a few years ago he discovered the art of the Paper Toy design and got hooked. His approach to papertoy design is very similar to his graphic design work. He says he doesn't really draw, but tactically places shapes and colours to create something that resembles an illustration and works them into a 3D aspect. He's commissioned by galleries, publications and magazines and hopes that in the future he can blend his daytime and evening activities into one and broaden his scope of paper engineering skills, in particular pop-up books and anything with paper in the third dimension.
