I set out to hitchhike the Tennessee portion of The World's Longest Yard Sale. Every year, thousands of people travel Highway 127 from Alabama to Michigan looking for nick knacks, antiques, junk - and the stories behind them. Published in the Fall 2013 issue of Digital Americana. Repackaged here: loganjaffe.tumblr.com/
The Sale itself began in Fentress County, Tennessee in 1987 as a way to get people off the Interstate and onto the backroads to help revitalize the local economy. Since then, the Sale has expanded hundreds of miles across the country. But it's hard to measure how helpful the Sale's been to Fentress County residents, especially as more outside vendors and visitors come to town.
This documentary examines the relationship between The World's Longest Yard Sale and the communities in and around Fentress County - including the hopes and concerns from local people if the Sale keeps growing.
Produced for the Fall 2013 issue of Digital Americana magazine.
