TRANSCRIPT: My name is Jennifer Boehnert. I am the GIS coordinator at the national Center for Atmospheric Research in, Boulder Colorado. I developed and taught a quantum GIS training at ICCS3. Quantum GIS is an open-source, free GIS software which can get installed on Windows, Mac, or Linux. In this training, I did a quick overview of what are geographic information systems, and then another quick overview of how to start working in quantum GIS, or QGIS. Participants in this session took a look at AR5 CESM model output, which was run at NCAR for the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report. We took a look at temperature change as well as precipitation change for the mid-century. We then took a look at areas that may have a warming and drying at this time period and brought in crop data. By overlaying crop information with climate data, they were able to take a look at which crops may be affected by this warming and drying come the mid-century.
