13 September 2012. Bruce Malamud, Joel Gill, and scientists from Italy, Canada, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and China (about 20 in all, including MSc/PhD students from Lanzhou), are in their second day of viewing landslides in Gansu Province, China. Today the group encountered a large active landslide which had been in movement already for 18 hours. This was Bruce and Joel's first 'large active landslide' (which they viewed from a safe distance of course!). The landslide consists of rocks tumbling and flowing down a very steep, hundreds of metres high slope, and started on 12 September 2012 at 4 pm.
