For students at two suburban Washington high schools, Barack Obama’s election as the nation’s first black president was an inspiring example of history in the making. Edward O. Ryans, the principal of the 1,7000-student Friendly High School in in Fort Washington, Md., said Mr. Obama’s ascent serves as a great model for the students.
