"Natural interactions for medical image analysis" a interaction design master thesis by Jannes Peters at Umea Institute of Design, Sweden in collaboration with Philips Design:

"How could the radiology department look like in the future?

Body scanning technologies, our healthcare systems and human-computer-interaction methods are developing fast. This project suggest a solution to bring these trends together in the radiology department.

Goal of this project was to develop a natural and intelligent interface for radiologists. The individual workspace of a radiologist, the Radiologists Reading Room, was the main focus during this work, but also how they exchange and share knowledge.

The final outcome from this thesis is a system called Nexight. It combines a highly specialized multi-touch with a real 3D interface."

This is the video of my Thesis Presentation at Umea Institute of Design. It's about 45 minutes - I am explaining the whole scope of this project: research, ideation, animations, demonstration of the prototype - enjoy the show! sound is a bit low, you might have to turn up your volume. more info: http://jannesdegree.wordpress.com/

- done in vvvv - 3D models generated with Osirix hardware: - 2 cheap webcams - red and blue LED - hacked Muji-pen (as light diffuser) - Pushbutton (with Arduino) more information and downloads here: http://jannesdegree.wordpress.com/3d-tracking-prototype-resources/

raw- not final version of the touch concept video. still many quirks and some missing screens. also low resolution makes it hard to see details... but better version coming soon. more information here: http://jannesdegree.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/touch-concept-video-raw/

here is a 1 day sketch in 3D pointing and drawing. I used a simple color tracker to detect the pink top of the pen. 1 webcam is tracking x and y position, the 2. webcam is tracking the z position of the pink-pen-top.

In the second version of my physical-cube-interface prototype you can not see the video stream. I tried to make the tracking more stable and also implemented some of my initial ideas for viewing actual radiology data. This is still a very early prototype but I have the feeling that I am on the right […]

I think 3D models of body scans could be the future, or at least take a bigger role than it is today. Introducing a natural interface for viewing these models could help the acceptance among radiology professionals. Here is another rough sketch around this idea. It’s an actual working prototype… unfortunately […]

What are Vimeo Albums?

Albums make it easy to organize a collection of videos. They can be used to display videos together, or sent to friends as a playlist. You can even arrange the order of videos in each album.

You can add a video to one of your albums or create a new album from the "Add" tab on video pages.

Albums can also be used to show videos on other web sites using Vimeo Widgets.
