Writer, Producer, Director, Editor
Since 2006, Alexander Freeman has been writing, producing, directing and editing various films, including narratives and documentaries. Alexander, who was born with cerebral palsy, made his directorial debut in with The Raven (2008) by Edgar Allen Poe starring Paul Horn (Gone Baby Gone). Alexander was one of only three disabled filmmakers selected internationally for the Very Special Arts 2010 AFI-Discovery Channel SILVERDOCS Apprenticeship program for his work as writer, co-producer, co-director and editor of I Care: A Documentary About Independent Living (2013) which premiered at the 2013 Picture This Film Festival in Canada. Alexander's documentary The Last Taboo (2013) was awarded Best Screenplay at the 2013 BOSIFEST in Serbia and was chosen for Official Selection at the 2013 10th European Film Festival: Integration You and Me, in Poland. The Last Taboo has also been featured in publications such as WBUR/NPR, My Sex Professor, ABC NEWS, The Berkshire Eagle, Under The Covers Magazine and mtvU and is being used by multiple universities and organizations. The Last Taboo is being distributed by Community Channel, a United Kingdom based channel covering 98% of homes in the United Kingdom. Alexander has interned as assistant editor for award-winning documentary filmmaker Robbie Leppzer and has interned at Technicolor. Alexander has also been a apprentice to academy award-winning editor Jeff Consiglio. Alexander is the Founder and President of OUTCAST PRODUCTIONS, which is devoted to telling thought-provoking stories on disability, sexuality, identity and diversity that encourage social action.
