Music Video and Commercials
Alex Orlowski began directing through Music Videos. He has directed numerous clips for many bands, cutting his teeth on a variety of genres including Afrika Bambata and award winning videos for alternative rock bands C.S.I and Timoria.
After moving to London he continued directing music videos and also began working on commercials.
Alex’s first Uk Music video for independent underground label Mo’ Wax’ Deborah Anderson was selected as one of the best video’s of at London’s Raindance film festival.
Alex directed “Pleasant Smell” for cult band 12 Rounds, a british band signed to Trent Reznor's Nothing Records in the U.S. The video was also very well received.
Alex’s music video for Sony artist DJ Rap is a surreal visualisation of a world where people seem to be monsters and the heroine (Rap) finds herself alienated and pursued by beings that are very different to herself. The video for “Everyday Girl” was chosen to be amongst the finalists for best alternative video at the CADS.
The Ad campaign for Energy Jeans “Spycam” was the first for the Italian Jeans wear label. It aired on MTV U.K. and MTV Europe and was awarded Silver at the AD Spot awards in Milan. His quirky spot for B-side picked up a Bronze at The San Sebastian Film Festival.
The commercial “Blind Man” for the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was awarded a Gold Medal at the New York Festivals.
Alex has gone on to direct a large portfolio of work for many different clients and agencies. Recent campaigns are for Seat Ibiza, Ford Focus with Carlos Sainz, Telefonica-Movistar with Motobike champions Gibernau, Roberts and Pedrosa, Vodafone, Telecom Italia with Valentino Rossi, Konica Minolta featuring the inimitable Ronaldinho Goucho and Sony Vaio
Documentary and Film
Alex’s short film “Peace At Last” premiered at the Mannheim/Heidelberg film festival in Germany and was shown at London’s Raindance Film Festival. The Soundtrack for which features music by Bjork and alternative Italian musicians CSI.
Alex has directed a Documentary Film for Italian Rockers Ligabue distributed by Warners Italy and another Documentary Film released on video of “London, City of Music”, one of several that focused on renowned musical cities around the world including New Orleans, New York, Amsterdam and Rio. The facinating one hour film featured interviews and sessions with Bill Wyman, Annie Nightingale and James Lavelle of Mo Wax amongst others.
A recent short film “Juegala Bien” about a Brazilian who ends up in a football riot as he celebrates a Barca FC and Ronaldinho victory after a UEFA champions leaguematch has been comissioned by Barcelona City Council as part of a series of films they are showing dealing with immigration.
Currently Alex is developing the script for a feature “Beefcake” (Temporary title).
