Alex Falkiner is a maker and emerging visual artist currently living and working in the Southern Highlands.
She is drawn to textile techniques for their accessibility and potential for playful adaptation. She holds a BFA with Honours from the College of Fine Arts in Sydney. Alex has been Artist in Residence at Gaffa (Sydney) and at Bundanon Trust (Cambewarra) where she was invited to create a site specific installation and series of workshops engaging young people from the Illawarra region.
In 2012 she was awarded a scholarship to study textile traditions in Gujarat, India. This month spent traveling, making and meeting artisans has made a colourful impact on her work. Following her interest in material transformation, community engagement and curious miniatures Alex's next project is to create a portable museum as Artist in Residence at the June Hedditch Apartments in Portland, Victoria.
