Born in 1985, Andrea Giansanti starts his career producing and editing digital videos with photographic studio IMMAGINAZIONE sas, for whom he realizes several audio/video reportages; in 2003, in occasion of the publication of photographic book VANISHING AFRICA, he collaborate to the direction of documentary that is subsequently distributed in numerous international editions. In parallel to this work, in 2004 he starts a collaboration with sound engineer David Matteucci, spawned from a common interest in digital audio/video experimentation; this collaboration eventually gives birth to the project SUBCULT, an independent post-production label that also finds interest in live shows. In fact, apart from directing music videos, in 2005 Giansanti starts experimenting on the use of digital media in several theatre shows directed by Tiziano Panici of the Teatro Argot: SEXUAL PERVERSIONS IN CHICAGO by D. Mamet, INSULTS TO THE PUBLIC by P. Handke, SCENES FROM THE NEW WORLD by E. Bogosian. He continues his activity as a videoreporter and editor, taking part to important reportages for IL CORRIERE DELLA SERA’s ‘Magazine’: 2008’s ‘LA CORSA ALL’ORO’, a number entirely dedicated to the Italian Athletes at the Beijing Olympics, is one of them. In the same year he is chosen among the students of his course in Digital Arts (Dipartimento di Arti dello Spettacolo, Università Sapienza, Rome) to be an assistant in the preparation of multimedia artist Bill Viola’s exhibition, INTERNAL VISIONS, at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. In 2005 his theatrical experimentation with visual media is intensified thorugh his contibution to AN ANTHOLOGY OF MAGNANIMITY, directed by Maurizio Panici for the cultural event LOOKING FOR A GOOD GOVERNMENT: Political Virtues and Commonwealth in the City of Siena. With the re-opening of Siena’s Teatro dei Rinnovati, Giansanti’s work can be seen in Maurizio Panici’s GLI INGANNATI. The artistic association with Maurizio Panici continues in the following years, growing through both smaller and bigger projects such as IL CAMBUSIERE by G.R. Baiocco, ORIZZONTI (the conclusion of a new writing programme held with the contribution of M. M. Bouchard) and APPUNTAMENTO A LONDRA by M. V. LLosa, premiered in Spoleto’s 2008 Festival dei Due Mondi. His animated digital backdrops accompany the voices of some of the most important actors in the Italian cinema and theatre: Omero Antonutti, Mascia Musy, Pamela Villoresi. In 2010 he looks after UMANITà, a retrospective exhibition about thirty years of his father Gianni Giansanti’s photographic work through his most popular shots. He creates digital landscapes for the monologue FRANCESCA, LA SANTA DEGLI EMIGRANTI, for the Divinamente Festival in Rome and New York. In the same year, he creates the whole visual project for the STORIE NECESSARIE Festival, Second Edition, at the Teatro India in Rome, and is the creator of the digital landscapes for its main event: CANTATA PER LA FESTA DEI BAMBINI MORTI DI MAFIA by Luciano Violante, which will then be produced as a show in 2011 by ATP_Associazione Teatrale Pistoiese. 2011 was a particularly significant year, thanks to nationally acclaimed theatre productions such as IL MIO COPPI with Pamela Villoresi and CHE ORA è directed by Pino Quartullo. He also takes part in independent productions: IN-CORPORE by Tiziano Panici and the Compagnia Ilaria Drago; IL BOSCO by the Compagnia CapoTrave. To present the 2011/12 season at the new Teatro Mancinelli_Stabile d’Innovazione, INTESE, he creates a complete ‘Mapping’ of the ancient theatre which produces a unique experience combining visual arts and theatre, using Shakespeare’s Sonnets as a reference, with the direction of Maurizio Panici. In 2012, he works on GOLDA’S BALCONY, performed by Paola Gassman, directed by Maria Rosaria Omaggio, which premiered at the Teatro Eliseo in Rome, and the independent project RAEP, a finalist for the 2012 award Premio Scenario per Ustica. He is currently creating the visual sets for Maurizio Panici’s adaptation of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. He has a long-standing collaboration with Teatro Argot Studio in Rome and Ar.Tè_Teatro Stabile d’Innovazione..
