Andrea Jean Plamondon
Biography
Innovative artist, and classically trained vocalist, Andrea Plamondon, has been compared to singers as diverse as, Siouxie Sioux, Ofra Haza, Kate Bush, Luisa Gerrard and others...
The Massachusetts born soprano, who began performing in theatre and musicals at age 14, was first noticed by visiting artist Rick Brant of the N.Y. Metropolitan Opera, during a classical voice seminar. Although Brant told her, with study, she had a voice exceptional enough to land leading roles with the Met, Plamondons first love was original music, and rock and roll.
Leaving her eastern roots behind, she headed for San Francisco, where in addition to fronting various underground bands, she pursued studies in Middle Eastern, Turkish and 14th century Ladino music, as well as over ten years training in classical voice, and opera. Combining her flair for improvisation with contemporary genres, like pop, rock, and experimental, Plamondon impresses audiences with her dramatic atmospheric output, and her intensely fluid voice.
Since 1989 she has performed in many of San Francisco's popular clubs and avant garde venues, including the opening for the S.F. Burning Man Festival at the San Francisco Opera Plaza, and the S.F. Middle Eastern Festival held at the well known Noe Valley Ministry. The first band fronted by Plamondon, Pox Eclipse, garnered favorable press in the nineties, while her 2008 anthology release, "I Still Remember", has received praise for it's originality and diversity, and has aired on college radio and internet radio in the U.S. and abroad.
Currently, Plamondon is on hiatus from San Francisco, working on
new music and video...
