Andrea Robles was born on March 9, 1976 in México City. She received a Bachelor in Communication Science with a major in film from the Iberoamerican University in 1999. During her studies she made an animated spot for UNICEF, which was awarded in the “National Association of Universities and Institutions for Education”.
In 2002 she formed the creative duo dobleA with Adriana Bravo. Since then they have been developing a strong body of work as collaborators since 2002.
With dobleA she did Anatomy of a Moth in 2003, an animation of pencil drawings that won a grant from “Arts and Culture National Council”. She received the financing Young Creators in 2004-2005 from “Arts and Culture National Fund”. Within this period she produced Microftalmía, an experimental animation of oil drawings on glass.
El Fish is a dobleA commissioned piece created for the “XXV Historical México City Downtown Festival” in 2008. The same year, dobleA received the Rockefeller “New media Arts Fellowship”.
Their last work until now is Instantes, produced in 2009, an experimental work divided in 4 animation loops that they called “unstable electronic drawings”.
Their award-winning animations have been exhibited in international festivals and art spaces, including in Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, Germany, France, Spain and the United States.
Andrea is currently studying the master Transmedia, Postgraduate Program in Art, Media and Design at Hogeschool Sint Lukas in Brussels. Now she is developing a series of video instalations that will be exhibited in 2012. She lives and works in Brussels, Paris and Berlin.
