Annie Cherry is an actress, vocalist, burlesque and vaudeville performer, pin-up gal, and dancer. She’s a lover, a fighter, a clown, a problem solver, and a wellspring of theatrical creativity.

Annie Cherry has been performing ever since she can remember. That being said, her memory has been somewhat dulled by many long nights of dance, whiskey, and decadence in the bars and cabarets of the legendary frontier and jazz town, Kansas City.

Her career in the public eye began at age six when she mortified her mother by belting Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It” at the top of her lungs in a high end department store. Years later, after a stint as an under-employed belly dancer, she seduced her way onto the playbill for the Etta Vendetta’s Eyeful Tower, a short lived, but well-appointed girly show, featuring some of the finest burlesque girls and jazz musicians in Kansas City. Soon after, she was adopted by Kansas City’s first modern burlesque troupe, the Burly-Q Girly Crew. She began teaching burlesque classes at City in Motion Dance school, which led to the production of Annie Cherry Presents: Hurly Burly, the wildly successful annual pro/am recital and variety show. Annie went on to form Cherry’s DeLuxe: Burlesque and Variety, with stand-up comic and fellow burlesque performer Lucky DeLuxe, taking their act to New York in the fall of 2008. About that time there was a primordial stirring in the seedy underbelly of Kansas City, and The Kansas City Society of Burlesque began taking shape. At a KCSOB show in October 2008, into the backstage walked a man in a derby, carrying a cane. Annie and he fell in love, and the rest, as they say, was history…

Now, Annie Cherry is proud to be performing not only with the KCSOB, but also solo, and as half of an old-fashioned vaudeville duo with her (now husband) Artemus Vulgaris. She is a repeat performer with The Donkey Show, Byrd Productions, the Clownvis Circus Burlesque Show, Vaudezilla, KC Gay Pride, and Bee’s Knees Burlesque, among others. Ms. Cherry has co-produced and performed in shows for the Kansas City Fringe Festival ’07, ’08, ’09, ’10 and 2011. Annie has modeled for Dr. Sketchy’s Kansas City more times that she can remember, and Dr. Sketchy’s Oklahoma City on one memorable occasion. She has also been a featured solo performer at the Priests of Pallas Ball, Naughty Needles Knitted Burlesque (concept and costumes by Nikol Lohr), Revolver: Secret Supper Club, and many, many more shows and events. You may have seen her on the cover of InkKC, in the Kansas City Star, or in Retro Vixen Magazine. She’s also known for belting out a tune, street busking in many guises, family friendly clowning around, helping to raise a heck-of-alot of money for AIDS Walk KC, and her deep love of drag queens and all things sequined.

Annie enjoys bourbon on the rocks, a good bit of fringe, and long walks off short piers.
