History of The Antitrusts

American Simon and Garfunkel impersonators Matt Love and Sean Ohlson were touring New South Wales, on the best and most successful tour of their professional career together, tearing up venues all across New South Wales. They had knocked audiences dead in Wagga Wagga, Cootamundra, and Gooloogong with their spot- on renditions of "The Sounds of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Waters."

However, there was a terrible mishap. A freak ballooning accident depositing them on a tiny, uncharted island between the Australian mainland and Tasmania, where they spent the next 14 years struggling for survival.

To maintain their sanity and hope, they worked on a new body of work. They vowed that when they were rescued, they would live life to the fullest, dedicating their careers to original music instead of covers.

At last they were rescued by a pair of natives, Biab and Soundsnap, who were canoeing near the island. As it happens, the mariners were musicians also; Biab a brilliant multi-instrumentalist earned his nickname (which is short for "Band in a boy") by teaching himself to expertly play a number of instruments that had been played by members of the ships orchestra on the Titanic, and washed up on his shore. Soundsnap is a percussionist, he gained his nickname because of his crisp snare work.

The new outfit toured widely behind their new music, but fame eluded them; they had no lyricists in the band, and they played their music as instrumentals. Everything changed when they played a club in Belo Horizonte, and they met the awesomely talented Tuca and Ana Mo.

After the show, in a cachaça-fueded jam session, Tuca and Ana improvised lyrics over the music, and the band knew they had the elements they needed to complete their sound, and to take them to the stratosphere of musical achievement.

Through months of effort, they polished their sound and carefully crafted the words and music, and what you are hearing now is the results. Long live The Antitrusts!
