Developers / Best Practices
Please try to follow these guidelines when using the Vimeo API.
Caching
We ask that you cache data whenever possible, especially images. This will keep the load on our servers down so we can keep providing you this awesome API!
Rate Limiting
Please try to limit your calls to the API to a reasonable frequency. We may temporarily or permanently block access if your application is calling the API too frequently, or you are requesting an unreasonable amount of data in a short time (i.e. iterating over lots of user ids or video ids).
Encoding
Vimeo expects all data to be UTF-8 encoded and will respond with UTF-8 encoded data. Make sure you encode your data as UTF-8 to avoid errors.
User Agents
If you're using a standard network library (like curl), it's best to set a custom User Agent for your app. We don't allow the libwww_perl and Python-urllib user agents and we may ban other standard user agents in the future.
