As part of this, we looked at the poetry of Emma Lazarus and Thomas Bailey Aldrich, who had very different attitudes toward immigration policy. Each student was assigned to draw a political cartoon based on either "The New Colossus" (the Statue of Liberty poem) or "The Unguarded Gate".
