Ronni Thomas is a filmmaker born and raised in Brooklyn NY in the mid 70s. His short films have received critical acclaim worldwide, most notably in the UK and of course his home town of New York City. His first few films Dawn Of The Flies and The Head Shop had a farcical and absurdists style that while underdeveloped technically at the time, would dictate his more polished and professional work. In 2006 he was asked to be part of a film project sponsored partially by HBO as well as many nyc advertising agencies (Y&R and Ogilvy most notably). His entry into the project, a short film called Mime and Punishment won him Best Digital Short at the Raindance Film Festival in London. The Old Song and Dance, a surreal and unsettling twist on the music of the 1920s and 30s, was completed in 2007. The film was meant to be a pilot for feature film and is currently in negotiations with several production companies. It premiered world wide and won Best Music Video and NYC's Royal Flush Film Festival. Radio Girl is his latest film and features the music of long time collaborator Stephen Coates of The Real Tuesday Weld. Some of his commercial clients areTrojan Condoms, Random House publishing, abovetheinfluence.com, and Carnegie Hall. In 2009 he wrote, produced and directed an Award Winning web viral for Le Tourment Vert Absinthe.. In addition to directing, Ronni also writes, edits and composes for film and advertising. He has worked with some of the most innovative and maverick directors and film personalities most notably commercial legend Bob Giraldi, Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman, underground legend Lech Kowlaski and Elliot Grove, founder of Raindance UK and the British Independent Film Awards. His love of 1930s surrealism, classic horror films from the dawn of cinema through the 1980s and general sense of absurdism gives his films the unique flair that is sadly missing from modern story-telling. He is currently in pre-production on 2 first feature films. In addition to filmmaking, Ronni is a frequent lecturer at the Brooklyn Observatory and has been written up in the NY Times, Time Out NY and NBC news for his events.
