is an American film director, screenwriter and visual artist living between New York and Paris. He studied cinema and new technologies at Brown University and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

His first narrative film La Maladie de la Mort, based on the homonymous novella by Marguerite Duras and starring Anna Mouglalis, premiered at the Venice Film Festival (2003) to then play in festivals worldwide.

Mr. Mader’s first stage direction HEROINE also starring Ms. Mouglalis – a multi-media performance based on the texts of Ovid, Marguerite Yourcenar, and telephone text messages (SMS) was created for and presented at the Festival of Ortigia (2004) in the Castello Maniace of Siracusa, Sicily.

Mader has directed two hour-long films for French TV, one of which stars Lou Doillon and had its premiere at the Festival of Paris-Cinema (2006).

Several of Mader’s large scale video and film installations were commissioned by Lille3000 for the exhibition “Bombay: Maximum City” (2006). In 2008, he exhibited film installations at Le Laboratoire in Paris, created expressly for a joint show with acclaimed photographer and preeminent photojournalist James Nachtwey (recent winner of the TED Prize and subject of the Academy-nominated documentary “War Photographer”).

His 3-channel choreographic film installation with dancer Sharmila Desai, who comes from a legendary family of dancers and exponents of dance, was presented in NY in summer of 2006. Mader has also developed a series of “film portraits” that include works with writers such as Suketu Mehta (Pulitzer Prize Nominee) and Pavan Varma, as well as photographer James Nachtwey and legendary dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Mader is currently preparing a “film portraits” series with twenty leading artists, writers, philosophers, and creative thinkers of our time.

He is also writing and developing two feature films, which he will also direct.
