Ashley L. Gormley
Film editor from Staten Island, NY.
Currently I am one the principal editors for the web show "In Your Business."
I began my production career while still in college as an assistant editor for the long-running PBS series "Burt Wolf: Travels & Traditions." I've worked in both video and film and am credited as an additional editor on "Winter's Bone," the soon-to-be released winner of this year's Sundance Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Dramatic Film.
I hold a BA in Visual Arts from Fordham University and received my Final Cut Pro 6 certification at The Edit Center in New York City.
When it comes to personal projects, I have always been fascinated with home video footage. Much of my life is captured on home video, thanks to my father's enthusiasm for recording home video even back in the days of VHS/SVHS cameras. And I have been drawn to watch home video since I could put a tape in the VCR.
Now, as an adult, I am interested in the power/influence/effect of that which the video camera captures and delivers to its viewers/subjects in affecting memory and in the understanding and shaping of identity.
I've only completed a few projects using home video footage, but as I convert all of the home video in my family's possession to DVD, I am sure I will one day return to the exploration.
