Augmented Engineering
Augmented Engineering consists of the research team of Brett Jones and Rajinder Sodhi at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We conduct research into spatial augmented reality, also known as projection mapping, in the fields of human computer interaction, computer vision and computer graphics. Both members have worked at Walt Disney Imagineering, under Mark Mine, doing research on projection based effects for theme parks and live entertainment.
The goal of the team is to "Do cool stuff." Which mostly involves playing with projector and cameras and things they find interesting.
I am currently working on interaction schemes and content authoring methods for Spatially Augmented Reality or projection mapping. Spatially Augmented Reality (SAR) involves utilizing projectors to augment the surface properties of arbitrary three dimensional surfaces, essentially transforming the surface of an entire scene. We are currently exploring the implications of SAR on live perfomance works and installation pieces.
