Banker White is a multi-disciplinary artist splitting time between Boston, San Francisco and Freetown, Sierra Leone. He is the director/producer of the award-winning documentary Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars. The film was nominated by the IDA (International Documentary Association) for best feature in 2006 and was broadcast on PBS and internationally. His collaborative filmmaking and storytelling project WeOwnTV is supported by Creative Capital, Freedom to Create and was a 2008 Bay Area Video Coalition Media Maker Award recipient. He is a 2009 recipient a research and development grant from the California Council for Humanities, for his documentary film, 'My Life Before Me- una historia oral de Carlos Lazaro Aldama Perez' . WeOwnTV weowntv.org is a collaborative media education project that promotes self-expression as a way to explore our shared humanity and build a foundation for the future. Leveraging community-engaged curriculum, WeOwnTV teaches filmmaking techniques and the art of storytelling to disenfranchised youth and young adults. By providing access to training, ongoing technical assistance and multi-channel distribution, WeOwnTV empowers young adults to share their stories and ideas with the world.
