But I also wanted to chime in on this thread to say that I'm stunned at the overall approach Vimeo has taken to this issue. I agree with what Mike Daly said above: Vimeo is not responding to the demands of its users. To simply say, "it's hard, so we might have it someday...", while the "roadmap" sits untouched and we all wonder what is going on with Vimeo, seems to be a recipe for frustrated users, which this thread makes clear. Bandwidth and processors for transcoding certainly cost money. There's no doubt that converting such a huge number of videos would be costly and time-consuming. But the fact that Vimeo is not RIGHT NOW encoding each and every NEW video that gets uploaded, into the proper format for the iPhone, and serving them up to iPhone users in Mobile Safari, to me, seems ludicrous. Not to mention, we now have the iPhone 3Gs -- this should be the time when Vimeo really presents itself to the world as the clear alternative for high quality video -- uploading and viewing! Instead, you're two years behind (or at least it feels that way to those of us who don't know what the heck is going on). Sorry for being long-winded. I'd just like to voice another "yes, please" for more attention to the chorus of demand for iPhone support.
