Staff Blog / Vimeo Plus now supports uploads up to 5 GB (Beta)

Hey gang!

As you know, we've always worked our hardest to give you the features you ask for. A frequent request from Vimeo Plus members has been the ability to use your full 5 GB weekly quota for one video. Previously, terribly boring and uncool technical issues have prevented us from achieving this, but we've continued to battle the computers (picture the fight scenes in The Matrix), and bumped up the limit several times.

Now, we're proud to say that we've made a big breakthrough, and 5 GB uploads per file are here! This update is great for many reasons: it means filmmakers can upload full-feature films in HD, parents can upload an entire soccer game, and your Aunt Martha can upload 2.5 hours of HD video of her cat taking a nap! Also, people who don't want to waste time compressing videos before uploading them can finally skip that step if they wish and upload videos directly from the camera. This should increase video quality on the site even further and give Plus members the flexibility they need.

We're launching this update right now in Beta, so we ask you to bear with us as we work out any bugs that pop up once everyone starts using it. We're aware of some issues with our desktop uploader (only accepts files up to 4 GB) and a few issues with Internet Explorer, so check the Help Forum for known issues and updates as we work through all the kinks.

Right now, 5 GB file uploads only work with our brand new 'ajax uploader' which you can find on the upload page. Just click the link under the upload button labeled 'ajax uploader' and start uploading!
