Staff Blog / Vimeo Weekend Project: April Fools' Prank
Hey all you pranksters,
Prepare the Saran-wrapped toilet seats and grab the toothpaste-filled Oreos — April Fools' Day is this weekend, and we're willing to bet you have some spirited tricks up your sleeves.
But what's a good hoax without proof that it happened? You need to show people all the hard work that went into forging that fake parking ticket and to prove that your older brother really did cry when the bucket of water emptied onto his head. And more importantly, you'll want to capture the laughs and ensure your joke will live on in infamy.
That's why, for this Weekend Project, we want you to document your April Fools' pranks!
The rules are simple, so you'll have to make the trickery especially elaborate:
+ Make a video depicting an April Fools' Day prank
+ Please play nice, keep your jokes lighthearted, and be tasteful
+ Try to keep your video under one minute
+ We want to see pranks perfectly pulled off, but, more importantly, we want creative documentation of the shenanigans. Try using video techniques such as timelapse, capture unusual camera angles with a GoPro or other small video camera, or mix things up in post-production with some clever editing. The possibilities are endless, and so will be the laughs!
To get you in a mischievous mood, here are some examples:
April Fools at Duarte from Duarte Design on Vimeo.
This one uses timelapse, and this one involves a cute kid. A fauxtograph can make for a great prank as well.
When you're finished, upload your video and submit it to the Weekend Project Group.
Remember that only videos made specifically for this project will be considered. All submitted videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the Group, so don't worry if your video doesn't show up right away. We'll get to it. Promise!
All submissions are due by Tuesday, April 3, at 11:59 PM (EST).
The winner of this contest will receive a free Vimeo Plus membership! If you're already a Plus member, you can gift the Plus account to whomever you choose, and we'll give you an extra 2.5 GB of upload space for your account. The runner-up will receive an extra 2.5 GB of upload capacity, Plus member or not.
Good luck and get pranking!
***UPDATE: Our winner this week is Guy Draper, who went into stealth mode with a hidden camera and pulled a fast one on a family member! vimeo.com/39590776

My favorite prank was the time you guys dropped support for the Desktop Uploader despite its overwhelming popularity. That one was classic!

How 'bout the April fool's prank they dropped on us by leaving the FB share option off the "New" Vimeo. There's another beauty!!! Hopefully all the "pranks" will be out of their collective systems by April 2nd.
