Staff Blog / Help Us Choose The World’s Best Videos — Vote in the Vimeo Festival + Awards Now!
You've got opinions, right? Because at this moment, we really want to hear them. We just unfurled the shortlists for the 2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards, and public voting is officially open! We kindly exhort you to watch a gaggle of great videos and help us figure out which are the greatest.
It's ridiculously easy:
2. Select a category that entices you
3. Watch all the videos in that category
4. Vote for the one that moves you most
You can vote once per day per category between now and April 30, so if there are videos you especially adore, give 'em lots of votes! And don't forget to share your voting activity on Facebook, Twitter, etc. - that's how people find out about cool stuff these days.
Each category will be judged by industry experts, the 2010 winner in that category, and of course you. And speaking of judges, we've got more incredible ones on board: acclaimed directors/producers/artistic geniuses Mike Figgis and Peter Greenaway are evaluating the Experimental category; free-spirited filmmaker Casey Neistat has his sights set on Narrative; and pro surfer Alana Blanchard is assessing Action Sports.
Finally, we'd never forgive ourselves if we didn't tell you that tickets for the Vimeo Festival + Awards are now available. Our sorta-annual shindig takes place June 7-9 in NYC, and you can be there for the unveiling of the world's best videos, plus get involved in our manifold conversations, workshops, and screenings. It's one part film festival, one part tech meetup, one part educational conference, and one part flying trapeze act. We hope to see you there! Get tix >

Awesome selection! How about a 'mobile' film category for next year :)

this is really a great opportunity and i am actually quite excited about it. all the selected movies look awesome by the way... :)
the only disappointment that i have is that there is a movie "Inti-Nan" by "BabaBC", and that's simply one of the best movies i came across on Vimeo, but the i didn't see it under any category. can someone please explain that what was the criteria that this movie couldn't meet to get selected in any of the category OR can anyone tell me that why isn't there ??
it's just that i am a little curious about the matter because the movie is such an awesome effort, u cn see it yourself on the following link:

Great film but the deadline for submission had already passed on the 20th Feb and this was submitted just 3 weeks back, maybe next year :)

It seems not to work on Safari 5.1.5 on Mac. It does work on Firefox. PC, no problems. So it's a Safari issue!

I'll take a look, and hopefully get this fixed today!

Hi,
Are you guys still experiencing problems?

Is there an explanation somewhere close by of the complicated algorithm used to calculate how user votes and judges' judgments combine to make a video a winner?
Stephen Niebauer Staff
Sure! This is from vimeo.com/awards/rules:
"Each group of Semi Finalist Submissions for a particular Category will be judged by an expert panel of judges selected by Vimeo (a "Jury"). Each Jury member will assign a single score to each Semi Finalist Submission based upon the Category Considerations and the Overall Considerations. The top four (4) Semi Finalist Submissions for each Category will be deemed "Finalists." The Jury members will discuss the Finalists to determine which Finalist will be the winner of the Category. In doing so, the Jury may consider community voting and commentary on the Finalists, which shall be provided to the Jury by Vimeo. Each winning Finalist will be deemed a "Category Winner" and will be awarded a Category award (each, a "Category Prize")."

I added a video to the advertising category, and I do not see it. This is my first time entering a video contest. Can you help me as to what happened to my video, please. Did I submit correctly? Just want to learn and better myself. Thank you.
Stephen Niebauer Staff
Hi Damian,
You did indeed submit correctly! Your video was entered in the Awards and given a proper viewing. With over 14.5k entries, we cannot give individual feedback for each one. Sorry about this. What you see on the vimeo.com/awards/voting page is the shortlist.
Martorana Productions Plus
Thank you, Stephen!

so, I assume that since I have not heard from "vimeo", means I have not been selected. Sure wish I could get some feedback about the video I submitted.

Great...we'll look into it and vote, very glad you are doing this festival!

Ok! No problem!

I've just taken a look at the video lists, I'm scheduling a session to sit back, watch all the videos on the TV screen and vote my favourites in the Narrative section. I'm sure it will be hard to choose the best among those great works.
Too bad I learnt about this festival when submissions deadline had already passed, I finished my first short movie on March and it would have been great to get at least a feedback. It will be for the next time!
Congratulations to everyone who made it to the finals of the Vimeo Awards!
