Staff Blog / Make a film with W Hotels, Intel, and Roman Coppola
We all like to travel, right? As creators, there's something inherently inspiring about exploring unfamiliar territory. Dudes like Fellini and Truffaut owe some of their greatest creations to the sights and sounds of a foreign place.
You may not have the dough to afford an extravagant vacation at the moment, but you can indulge your passion for far-flung locales by submitting a travel-inspired screenplay to the Four Stories film competition. I'm pumped to announce that I, along with the one and only Roman Coppola, will be on the panel of judges for this awesome contest. We'll be selecting three screenplays that will be produced by Roman's filmmaking company, The Directors Bureau, at one of four W Hotels destinations worldwide. This is a HUGE opportunity, you guys!
To qualify, your 10 minute screenplay must be set in a W Hotel and needs to feature one of those sleek new Ultrabook laptops as a central prop. See the full contest details right here. Submissions close on 8/30, so get moving! I can't wait to see what you come up with.

So wait, people would need to buy an Ultrabook laptop and feature it in their film just to qualify?!...
Katie Armstrong Staff
Nooo, this contest is all about writing a screenplay! You just have to feature the Ultrabook in your script.

Oh, okay...
Jesse Sawyerr
so what if its not in the screenplay?

Then add it :P

I'm guessing we only have to write the screenplay, not film it?
And, despite always being on Vimeo, how come I've only just seen this competition, and yet the closing date is in 6 days?! Every time I see a project or comp there's never enough time to spend thinking about a great idea... Humph!
Still, I'm gonna get my thinking cap on...
Katie Armstrong Staff
You're totally right, Rich -- you need only to write a screenplay for this contest.

I agree, but the contractual restrictions included in the consent form would require the services of an attorney on the part of the consenting party.
IOW's starving artists need not apply :)

It's that bad? you actually need a lawyer / legal person to sign the consent?

No weekend project this week? :(

So is that it, all you get if your script is selected is that it's produced by Roman Coppola?

You also get to travel to the set, as well as to the screening.

BOOM.

That would really work for me.

But if your script is selected you can't direct your own script?
Ian Pons Jewell Plus
You submit a script only, then, if you win, you do not get to direct it. You get two trips, one for "part" of the shoot, the other for the premierre. The first trip they give you 500 dollars spending money, and the 2nd you get 200 dollars.

Is this only for people in the U.S.?

I would be into this if it was a truly creative endeavor, but the only goal of this is to sell PC'S and Nice hotels. Bummer.... PS, rewards for those who win would be the right thing to do for this kind of thing.

Well, I have most of my video`s on youtube...I will keep this in mind. I have footage of my travels. For this type of contest, I will be taping more of my travels. Thank You!! for the idea. I`m a bit late for this one. Gia

Folks, it's time to set down the DSLRs and flex a few story muscles! Deeply wish there were more competitions like this.

A bit late to ask but what exactly is a W hotel.? Is it one with a water-park or something like that?

W is a name brand high end hotel chain… I guess you don't travel much?

Visa restrictions perhaps?
Random Photons Plus
Probably legal ones regarding competitions. I'm surprised its open to so many countries, to be honest. Mostly it's just locked down to one or two.
Mauricio Thomsen
The Visa to the U.S. truly takes a little longer in Brazil, but with that schedule I don't think that should be an issue.
And there are so many online video contests open to every country.
Blake Whitman Staff
hey guys, due to varying factors only certain countries are eligible. We are helping promote this contest because we think it's a great opportunity for creators, but just to be clear, this is not OUR contest, it's something we're helping promote.
