Yo Vimeo!

We all know that Sundance is a special film festival. However, it might not be immediately obvious what makes Sundance so amazing, besides the reputation that precedes it. Well, let us tell you. In 2009, Sundance became one of the first festivals of its size and stature to accept films that premiered online. Previously, films that had premiered online were ineligible for consideration, which sadly continues to be the case for many other festivals and awards. Since Sundance made the leap, the landscape in Park City has increasingly resembled the landscape over here at Vimeo.

Last year, Vimeans were well represented at Sundance, with work by Julia Pott, Mayer\Leyva, California is a place., and Matt Lenski all appearing in the shorts competition. Also, Kibwe Tavares took home the special jury prize in animation for his short Robots of Brixton.

This year, Vimeo is even better represented at Sundance! In addition to the return of Julia, Mayer\Leyva, and Kibwe, a slew of newcomers from the Vimeo community will be featured, including Jason Willis, Daniel Sousa, and Riley Stearns in the shorts competition and Alex Moors, Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Jill Soloway with feature-length offerings.

The Vimeo Staff is rolling deep, too: Our presence at Sundance last year was made up of a small (yet remarkably handsome) cadre of Vimeo Staff, but this year's group has grown into a bonafide delegation that includes Blake, Bret, Jason, Jeremy, Jordan, Kerry, Larry, Riley, and myself.

Obviously, the Sundance experience wouldn't be complete without an awesome party, so Vimeo is co-hosting a rad event on Friday evening (January 18th). We've got some invites to dish out, but you'll have to come find us first! If you want to snag an invite, follow me, Jason, and Jordan on Twitter, because we'll be tweeting our whereabouts in Park City over the next couple of days with the hashtag #VimeoSundance. If you can track one of us down and give us a serious high-five, you'll get a ticket to party with us! While supplies/high-fives last.

And hey, Robert Redford — if you're reading this, you can just show up to the party. No invitation needed. Just give one of us a chest bump at the door.

Love,
Sam + The Vimeo Sundance Crew
