Yo Vimeo!

It has been brought to my attention that a man named T.S. Eliot once wrote that "April is the cruelest month." Well, I beg to differ! After reflecting upon the month that was April 2013, I can say with a great degree of certainty that last month was actually quite generous, bestowing upon us a batch of videos that would make even the most jaded Modernist poet jealous.

April was a particularly strong month for Vimeo Staff Picks. Whereas we typically include only one narrative short in our monthly Staff Favorites watchlists, this month's crop includes three outstanding narrative shorts that range from the comedic origins of a KISS ballad to an interwoven reaffirmation of human decency to a work of historical fiction about one of the world's foremost street artists. It's a great lineup that looks best in Couch Mode or in the Hubnut player below. Enjoy, poets and poetesses:

We'd also like to make a special shout-out to one video that we couldn't fit into our April Staff Favorites watchlist, although it is a favorite of ours. "euphonia," which premiered at SXSW in March, made its online premiere on Vimeo on April 21. Seventy thousand plays and nearly 1,000 likes later, it's been awesome to see the Vimeo community respond so well to this film, which made a huge impact on us when we saw it at SXSW. If you haven't taken a look already, we highly encourage you to do so!

Peace!
Sam

Putting "Euphonia" up on Vimeo for free was a really bold and awesome choice for that filmmaker.

There was a 3D CG music video in April's "Staff Picks" but now deleted (by which party is not important), can the staff remember its name? The singer was male. The CG wasn't realistic, but it was polished - the 3D dude kept morphing in itself as it endlessly walked from left to right... anyone remember this?

LOL - 24 April 2012 was definitely the cruelest month! Without a doubt! Google released its Penguin update and destroyed thousands of site and small businesses. Ouch
