Ten-thousand smackers. As in, dollars. As in, $10,000 advances to strapping young creators. That’s just what Vimeo is offering to filmmakers premiering feature-length films at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival (lovingly known as TIFF). That’s right — Vimeo is throwing money at people making amazing work so we can bring their incredible films to you, the viewer, through Vimeo On Demand. You may have heard of it — it’s this great platform that lets creators sell their work, their way.

As we type this enthralling blog post, a small cohort of the Vimeo team is en route to Canada to attend the 37th annual TIFF to meet those cool, filmmaking people. With over 140 feature-length world premieres, we’ve got a lot of schmoozing to do.

Equally as exciting as $10,000 advances (well, almost) is the Vanguard Programme, an initiative dedicated to films that TIFF proclaims “provocative, sexy… possibly dangerous.” We were thrilled to learn there’s an entire program dedicated to the three qualities that best describe the Vimeo staff.

Speaking of provocative, sexy, and dangerous things, we’re also hosting a party on Sunday night at the Everleigh, and you’re all invited! That is, if you received an invitation. If you happen to be in Toronto, tell us in the comments below and we’ll reach out to you with all kinds of RSVP deets.

Even if you can't make it the party (boooo), the Vimeo gang (more specifically, Sam, Bret, Jeremy, Jordan, and Kerry) will be in Toronto for the next week, and we'd love to grab some coffee or brandy or what have you and chat. Stay in touch at the festival by tweeting and Instagrammering with the hashtag #VimeoTIFF, and we’ll do the same.

Catch ya on the Canadian side!

Hi, I just wanted you to check out this short animated film I have made with puppets! It is called The West Factory Rebellion.

It has been in two festivals here in the UK including the BFI and The Little Angel Theatre (the home of British puppetry).

I really hope you enjoy it :)

Hello Chris,

Will Vimeo open up this TIFF program or something similar to non-TIFF filmmakers down the road? I am completing a detective comedy feature called Breakthrough Weekend at the moment, going out to early 2014 festivals, & am very interested in the program that you/Vimeo are trying out at TIFF. Thanks.
