Staff Blog / Congratulations to the Vimeo Awards Winners
-
Wow! This past weekend exceeded our wildest expectations. The screenings of the finalists' works were very well attended, and the experience of viewing these exceptional videos in a true theater setting was amazing.
The Awards ceremony on Saturday night was first-class, all the way. Ze Frank hosted with the combination of professionalism and humor that we knew he'd deliver, and his "co-host" - the three dimensional, projection-mapped screen/sculpture - took the ceremony to the next level. Full video of the evening coming very soon, don't worry. For now, here's a teaser.
The Vimeo Awards finalists were all deserving of praise, and the winners were gracious in their acceptance speeches.
When Eliot Rausch stepped up to the podium to accept the award for the Documentary category, his shock and appreciation were obvious. Later, when he returned to accept the award for Best Video and the $25,000 grant towards his future work, his genuine gratitude moved us just as much as his film, 'Last Minutes With ODEN' had. It was truly a special moment for everyone in the room.
And the winners are:
Narrative: "Thrush" by Gabriel Bisset-Smith
Documentary: "Last Minutes with ODEN" by Eliot Rausch
Music Video: "Liars 'Scissor'" by Andy Bruntel
Animation: "Between Bears" by Eran Hilleli
Original Series: "Break-ups The Series" by Ted Tremper
Experimental: "oops" by Chris Beckman
Motion Graphics: "TRIANGLE" by Onur Senturk
Captured: "Fluid Sculpture"by Charlie Bucket
Remix: "BREAKDOWN the video" by Kasumi
The great thing about this being a celebration of online video is that you can watch all of the winners right on our Awards site! We highly recommend you check out these works that we all found so inspiring. Community Choice winners will be announced next week, so stay tuned for that announcement.
We want to thank everyone who submitted their work for making this first annual Vimeo Festival + Awards such a success, and we look forward to seeing your entries next year.
Love,
Your Exhausted But Immensely Satisfied Vimeo Festival + Awards Team

Grats, again.
Glad to see Vimeo so sensitive, bureaucracy is a hunch. Youtube remains banned, tough.
Shame non-stop continues. I am still strongly underlining this incident in my all interviews on both natıonal and international media. Thanks to Vimeo team. I am really grateful for this award.
Also thanks to everyone who has voted for me.
Vimeo tells the world that the most important movie of the probably most important video community in the web is a documentary about a dying dog (good movie - dont get me wrong).
I am a big supporter of vimeo and it is not about moaning here. But I think it is the most interesting question when vimeo itself communicates a "re-volution - a revolution: What exactly does that mean or what is the intention by choosing this video? I don't know but it is not about progressive contemporary filmmaking and in my eyes it is also not a message of humanity.
... and yes it made me cry too :-) - but it gives me nothing to think about in times like these. Is there a official statement regarding the choices?
Sorry, but in film schools you see hundreds of films like this every year. I mean, I liked it, it's really emotional, authentic and well made, but it doesn't seem so incredibly innovative to me.
Keep up the fantastic service-!!!
Marc Scott
is amazing!
Get creating, you creative people!
Congrats the winners
I have only commented, not to rip the filmmaker, but to question why something like this would win an award.
Las thing. There is an overhead shot of the man cycling. What is the point of this? I have a feeling it is because it looks cool, like every other choice made in the direction. I'd be happy to hear any comments on the film itself, and not the story which seems to be the confusion. An emotional story that one may see on Oprah. It tocuhes you. You say, oh I like that. But is it good filmmaking? Wonder what cahiers would say about it....
are there any play lists from the film screenings for those who couldn't make it, such as the altered states or imaginary worlds screenings?? is there somewhere else i can find this out?
