At Veoh, I worked on video storage and serving, and I saw first hand how high the costs involved with that are. I've been worried that Vimeo might be a casualty of the economic downturn, as Veoh was (and Veoh's own mismanagement), so I am happy to see that you are thinking long term. At this point of my post, some reader might have 2 questions: One: Why use Vimeo when I worked at Veoh? Easy. Vimeo has much better quality and community, and a different focus. As a filmmaker, Vimeo is her for me. Veoh was there for the video watchers, not the makers. Two: Veoh.com is still here, why do you say it is defunct? Veoh is dead. The walking dead, but dead. A zombie website, if you will. Months ago, they laid off most of the staff, and they now pursue a dead end strategy based on a loser product. Yes, I am a little bitter, as I was one of the laid off, but trust me, Veoh is dead. Anyway, thanks Vimeo, for taking the steps you need to take to stay around long term. Thanks for the transparency and the heads up. I look forward to posting videos here for years to come. -geekd
