Brian Kent Gotro is a digital pixel manipulator…
Working in the video medium Gotro turns his camera on himself and his surroundings to make immersive installations and single-channel video work activating territory that is sometimes personal… sometimes political, sometimes serious… sometimes comedic.
Gotro has exhibited his work locally and internationally, showing in Moscow, Berlin, Hong Kong, Oslo, New York, Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver, and in his hometown of Kelowna, B.C. His work is in distribution at Vtape in Toronto (vtape.org) and Video Out in Vancouver (videoout.ca). For a taste, click: vimeo.com/briankentgotro/videos
Parallel to his art practice Brian works extensively within the arts community, serving as Board Vice President of ON MAIN Gallery (Vancouver) and as Technical Coordinator at Vtape (Toronto).
Before Toronto, Gotro worked as Head Studio Assistant at Paul Wong Projects and as Lead Digitizer at Grunt Gallery (Vancouver). Back in 2002/03 Brian was the Media Project Coordinator for the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art (Kelowna): under this initiative he was instrumental in developing the first video-access centre for artists in the Okanagan Valley. Gotro earned his BFA from Okanagan University College (now UBC Okanagan), graduating in 2000.
