Jane Merritt has hosted the weekly Called to Serve show since its inception in July, 2003. She is a member of Christ Episcopal Church in New Bern, and chairs the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina’s Prison Ministry Commission. She preaches at Greene Correctional Institution once or twice a week, visits Pamlico Correctional Institution with the Yokefellow Prison Ministry team weekly, and she is active in organizing Prison Ministry Conferences and Round Table Meetings at the State level. She coordinates summer camps for children of incarcerated parents at Camp Bob in Hendersonville, NC. She serves on the Board of Forgiven Ministry, Taylorsville, NC. Jane is also a member of the Ministry of Money’s Covenant for Transformation Group, Washington, DC. This commitment has taken her on reverse pilgrimages to Haiti and to India in 2007. Her passion is sharing with others what she has learned from some of the poorest of the poor about how to live the abundant life in community without material possessions. Jane is married to Keith Merritt, who shares her passion for Prison Ministry and accompanies her on many of her prison visits. Jane grew up in London, England, and has lived and worked in Switzerland, and in Denmark before moving to the US in 1980.
