Carlos Averhoff, Jr is saxophonist, arranger, composer and educator born in Havana, Cuba.
In 2006 he moved to the United States and received in 2007 the North American Scholarship and later the prestigious Charlie Parker Scholarship Award at Berklee College of Music, and the Woodwind Achievement Award. In May of 2011, upon completion of his studies, Carlos earned Summa Cum Laude honors from Berklee College of Music.
In the Fall of 2011 Carlos began his postgraduate studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he received meritorious scholarship awards.
In the year 2008 Carlos launched his musical project IRESI, entitled after a West Africa Yoruba word meaning the innate light within. His original compositions and classic standard arrangements bringing together rich harmonics and rhythmic fusions of his native Cuba with the contemporary modern styles of Jazz and Funk, are portrayed in the project’s repertoire.
