On November 14th, World Diabetes Day, Team Type 1, along with with the International Diabetes Federation distributed life saving diabetes medication and supplies to the children of Rwanda. In Rwanda, many children with diabetes only have the ability to test their blood glucose levels once per week, or even worse, once per month. Phil describes life with Type 1 diabetes, the 24 hour a day disease. He was diagnosed at 7 months of age. His mother, Joanna, was told he would be blind, have renal failure or be dead by 24. As any mother would respond, she was determined that this not be the case and changed the family life dramatically to combat diabetes. Phil learned to exercise, especially riding bikes, ultimately ending up starting a not for profit
