1. This is the third lecture in the course. It was a bit briefer than usual because I had a problem with the projector during my first lecture of the day and did not want to advance too far beyond what we did in that lecture. We covered more basics from Chs 1&2 of Dixit, Skeath and Reiley, looking at examples of signalling, commitment devices, zero sum and non-zero sum games, and repeated vs, one-shot games.

  2. Continuing the introductory section of the course and covering some of the basics from Chapter 1 of Dixit, Skeath and Reiley, we covered some basic examples of Commitment Devices, the Prisoner's Dilemma, the many-player Prisoner's Dilemma and Coordination and Coordination Failure. We will go into these ideas in greater depth later in the course. The lecture was very busy, so I apologise for any ambient noise that happens to come through.

  3. This is the first lecture for ECO2007S - Cooperation and Competition - at the University of Cape Town. In this lecture I covered some basic administration at the beginning of the lecture. After that I began the course content asking, 'What is Game Theory?' and 'Why study game theory?' I was somewhat flustered because of some administrative problems on the day, nevertheless the lecture went OK. Enjoy.

This is the channel for the course Cooperation and Competition at the University of Cape Town. It is my first attempt to create a combination screencast and video. The course is an introductory course in game theory using the book Games of Strategy (3rd Ed) by Dixit, Skeath and Reiley.
