This was the first moderated forum organized by Albany Against Coal Trains on February 17, 2013. Guests included Kris Paul from Corvallis350.org, Regna Merritt, Evan White and Mayor Jeremy Ferguson from Milwaukie, Oregon.. Albany Against Coal Trains believes that as citizens we have a democratic right to participate in the decision making process on a plan so incredibly detrimental to our community's health, safety and economic stability. Coal is a dirty, polluting 19th century energy source and there is nothing positive with this project to benefit Oregonians. Community members can join together to stop coal trains from traveling through downtown Albany!
Opportunities abound for working as a collective to bring attention to this issue. The goal is huge but Albany Against Coal Trains, in solidarity with many other Pacific Northwest cities, does have the power for direct action to protect our community from this proposed export plan.
This forum will be used to organize, motivate, share information and strategize as we move forward. The hope and plan is to encourage as many people as possible to join this effort. Please share with those in your network who care about Albany. Remember to think globally, act locally!
