The STA crew team shined at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Championships held at Sandy Run Park in Occoquan, Va., this weekend. The team entered a first 8, a second 8, and a first 4. On a perfect Saturday for racing, everyone came home with a medal. The first and second 8s dominated the field with open water victories in each final. Our first 4 won an impressive silver medal. “These guys were much smaller than their competition and were racing against many teams’ top 4, yet they performed very well,” said Coach Ted Haley.
The depth of the St. Albans crew was on display with the STA team winning the first and second 8 races for the third year in a row. The team also won the points trophy in this event. All crews are now ready for the Stotesbury Cup regatta next weekend in Philadelphia, where we will race in the senior 8, second 8, freshman 8, and junior 4.
