"Couples," is an exhibition of vivid portraits by Atlanta-based artist, Karen Shacham. Her series showcases the multiple experiences that inform how queer couples live in the U.S. With terms like “gay” and “lesbian” most often used within political and social constructs, we overlook the myriad of ways in which these couples exist. With gay marriage being legal in only five states, queer couples balance their committed relationships within a system of inequality. At Dewberry Gallery of SCAD in Atlanta, August 2010.
