Footage from a three hour discussion is also referenced but the content of this discussion is too private to include in the video.

Open Youth Networks is a youth outreach program of the Department of Interactive Arts and Media at Columbia College. The program works to bridge the digital participation gap by educating girls and urban youth to use emerging technologies, games and social media for civic participation, community problem-solving and critical analysis. Many works here pre-date the creation of OYN back to when i collaborated with youth as part of a Rockefeller intercultural Media Fellowship and worked at Video Machete - then Evanston Township High School.
In my youth media workshops, youth are put in charge of conceptualizing how to use participatory media as a springboard for youth leadership, communications, elf-expression and organizing around issues impacting themselves and their communities. OYN projects include:

Mi Parque - developed by an all-women team led by Pallavi Anderson from Motorola Solutions and Mindy Faber from Open Youth Networks, Mi Parque – Little Village is a bilingual participatory placemaking web and smartphone application that helps residents of Little Village ensure that their new park is maintained as a vibrant safe, open and healthy green space for the community. Mi Parque won 2nd place in the 2011 Community round of the Apps for Metro Chicago contest and the Placemaking Award sponsored by Metropolitan Planning Council and IBM!
